Maccabi BY Hockey Team: A New Chapter in the Movement

In Belarus, a country where hockey is loved for its speed, character, and team spirit, Jewish sports have gained a new dimension. With the support of the Jewish Religious Union in the Republic of Belarus, Maccabi BY has, for the first time, established a hockey team under the auspices of the Maccabi World Union.

The Jewish Religious Union takes pride in Maccabi BY's new ice hockey initiative, which elevates its activities to a new level. The team consists of amateur hockey players who share the movement's values and are ready to represent them on the ice. This expansion enriches the sporting life of the community and strengthens its presence in Belarusian sports.

Building on Tradition

Hockey is an integral part of Belarusian identity. The first match was played in 1940 in Brest, and by the mid-1960s, nearly eight thousand people were playing hockey in the republic. The Belarusian national team has written memorable pages in world hockey history, including a 4th-place finish at the Salt Lake City Olympics and the 2014 World Championship in Minsk, widely regarded as one of the best-ever tournaments.
Maccabi BY continues these traditions, opening a new page in the history of Jewish sports in Belarus.

First Steps on the Ice

The Maccabi BY hockey team has already started training and will compete in the second division of the Minsk amateur championship. The creation of the team is just the beginning. Regular training sessions, official matches, and club development lie ahead.

The Jewish Religious Union will follow the team's progress and share news about its achievements. The ice has been broken — matches, competition, and new milestones await.
